When I was two, I was nearly new

It’s our birthday today. We are two years old!

We still hang out together.

And we still fight!

Quotes of the Day (really, selected poetry!)

Tattoo was the mother of Pinkle Purr,
An enormous leopard with coal-black fur.
A little brown kitten that’s nearly new
Is now playing games with its big Tattoo…
And Pink looks lazily down at her:
“Dear little Tat,” says Pinkle Purr.
(a.a. milne, Pinkle Purr)

I love my little kitty
her coat is so warm.
And if I don’t hurt her
She’ll do me no harm
I won’t pull her tail,
Or drive her away
And kitty and I
Very gently will play.
(Mother Goose)

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray this cushy life to keep.
I pray for toys that look like mice,
And sofa cushions, soft and nice.

I pray for gourmet kitty snacks,
And someone nice to scratch my back,
For windowsills all warm and bright,
For shadows to explore at night.

I pray I’ll always stay real cool
And keep the secret feline rule
To NEVER tell a human that
The world is really ruled by CATS!

Creative Blogger Award

Thanks to the wonderful blogger and her cat Sonu Singh at But I Smile Anyway, I’ve been nominated for the Creative Blogger Award! (Or, as she put it, the Can’t Be Arsed award!)

The rules are as follows:

1. Contact all of your nominees and notify them of their award. You can pick as many blogs as you like, but five is the minimum.

2. Give a shout-out to the blogger that nominated you and post a link to their website.

3. Share five random facts about yourself.

4. Display the Creative Blogger Award image above your post.

5. Pass along these rules to the nominees.

So, five random things about myself.

1. I’m playing fetch with Kobi as I’m writing this.

2. I have celiac disease, which means I can’t eat wheat, rye, or barley, or any derivatives thereof. (Fortunately, I don’t like beer!)

3. I love the beach!

4. I like to write.

5. My husband and I are big geeks (okay, that might not be a surprise!). We both used to collect comic books and still peruse the comic book racks. I have 6+ long comic book boxes in my spare room.

Now it’s time for five other blogs to nominate.

1. Hands on Bowie

2. Gentle stitches

3. These Days of Mine

4. Two Cats Views

5. One Spoiled Cat

Thank you again, Ritu, for nominating me!

The proof of the cat is in the mouse

Every cat has its day. A cat in the hand is worth two in the bush. Give the cat his due.

These are the proverbs that would exist if cats wrote them.

When the cat’s away, the mice will play. Too bad for our mice that the cats are always around.

Kobi and his mouse-1

Resting after a long day’s work.

Kobi and his mouse-2

Quotes of the Day

The cat is nature’s Beauty. (French proverb)

It is better to feed one cat than many mice. (Norwegian proverb)

After dark all cats are leopards. (Native American proverb)

Sunday Selfies with Kobi and The Cat on My Head!

It’s me, Kobi, with my favorite mousie! Mum and dad say it looks like a rat, but I love it! It’s the best!

Sunday Selfie with Kobi

Quotes of the Day

The cat is the only animal which accepts the comforts but rejects the bondage of domesticity. (Georges Louis Leclerc de Buffon)

If cats looked like frogs we’d realize what nasty, cruel little bastards they are. Style. That’s what people remember. (Terry Pratchett, Lords and Ladies)

Never try to outstubborn a cat. (Robert A. Heinlein, Time Enough for Love)

The first day of spring

This week we received some new furniture, so we moved the furniture around a bit. The animals are enjoying the new arrangement!

(Sheba) Wow! My own couch!

(Kobi) Um, not quite!

We also added a cushion to a side table. The cats loved this!

(Bo) Look at all this sun!

(Kobi) You’re right, Bo, this really is comfortable!

Unfortunately, it does not look like spring here where I live.

We’re hoping the snow won’t accumulate too much!

Quotes of the Day

Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!’ (Robin Williams)

Spring is God’s way of saying, ‘One more time!’ (Robert Orben)

Every spring is the only spring, a perpetual astonishment. (Ellis Peters)

Sunday Selfies Blog Hop

Selfie Bo

I am the beautiful Bo, and my tail is like a peacock’s – except it’s a cat’s tail. (More on my wonderful tail will appear later this week!)

Quotes of the Day

There’s no need for a piece of sculpture in a home that has a cat. (Wesley Bates)

My cat speaks sign language with her tail. (Robert A. Stern)

What do you think Kobi is thinking in this picture? Inquiring minds want to know!

Steves hat new2

Quotes of the Day

Every day’s an adventure when I step out of my door. That’s why I usually wear a hat and keep my head low. (Steve Buscemi)

And all your future lies beneath your hat. (John Oldham)

As the crow flies

We found out recently that crows like to eat peanuts in the shell. They crack the shell and then eat the peanut inside. We have hundreds of crows in the area. In the morning, they fly from the river, eastward. In the afternoon, they fly back to the river. Groups of crows (or, more accurately, a “murder” of crows) frequently lounge in our neighborhood.

Feeding peanuts in the shell to our local crows.

The cats now have a daily morning TV show called “Feeding the Crows.” They look forward to this every morning!

Quotes of the Day

I’d rather learn from one bird how to sing than to teach ten thousand stars how not to dance. (e.e. cummings)

In order to see birds it is necessary to become a part of the silence. (Robert Lynd)

Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark. (Rabindranath Tagore)

I have been, and always shall be, your friend

Bo is helping me look for a job. He sits by me whilst I’m working on the computer.

Kobi just likes being on his perch – above all beings – on his cat tree.

In other news, we were very saddened to learn of Leonard Nimoy’s death last Friday. Mr Nimoy not only played the iconic Spock, but he was also a champion of women’s rights and an animal lover, among his many other virtues. Live long and prosper.

P.S. Holy cow! Apparently it’s our two-year blogiversary today and I didn’t even realize it! :) Thank you for following us!

Happy Blogiversary!

Quotes of the Day

Montgomery Scott: Thank heaven!
Spock: Mr Scott, there was no deity involved. It was my cross-circuiting to B that recovered them.
Leonard McCoy: Then thank pitchforks and pointed ears.
(Star Trek, “Obsession”)

James T. Kirk: Spock, comment.
Spock: Very bad poetry, Captain.
James T. Kirk: A more useful comment, Mr Spock.
(Star Trek, “Catspaw”)

Scotty: Mr Spock, you said a while ago that there were always alternatives.
Spock: Did I? I may have been mistaken.
McCoy: Well, at least I lived long enough to hear that.
(Star Trek, “The Galileo Seven”)

Title quote is from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Spock mentions the Kobiyashi Maru test in this scene.

A winter wonderhell

My thanks to Feminine Vestige for her wonderful post, upon which I based my title!

We are sick

of snow,

cold weather, and ice,

of which there is at least four inches on our front and back walks. (P.S. Yes, that’s the power line to the house.)

We’ve had some sunny days

but mostly the cats don’t give a darn about the snow, ice, and cold,

except maybe this creature – the catsquatch –

who has some pretty sharp claws

which have drawn blood from the humans.

The end.

Quotes of the Day

Now is the winter of our discontent. (William Shakespeare)

Winter is nature’s way of saying, ‘Up yours.’ (Robert Byrne)

No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn. (Hal Borland)
