A Tough Road to Hoe

I apologize for my long absence. Last year was a bit of a difficult year for me. And it is now just me, not us, in terms of the humans of this household. My significant other and I parted ways last year, and he was a source of inspiration for this blog.

I also missed this blog’s three-year anniversary (March 3), which was last week! But onto the boys.

The boys slept a lot this winter, in unusual places.

They took over the couch.

They enjoyed some of the unusually warm winter days we had.

And behaved like the hooligans angels they are.

Mostly they’re hoping for an early spring, so that they can enjoy more open windows!

Quotes of the Day

A smile is the light in your window that tells others that there is a caring, sharing person inside. (Denis Waitley)

One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today. (Dale Carnegie)

What you really want for yourself is always trying to break through, just as a cooling breeze flows through an open window on a hot day. Your part is to open the windows of your mind. (Vernon Howard)

Take me to the pilot

for control!

Take me to the pilot of your soul!

Quotes of the Day

Knowledge is the eye of desire and can become the pilot of the soul. (Will Durant)

She glances at the photo, and the pilot light of memory flickers in her eyes. (Frank Deford)

Dog is my copilot. (Unknown)

The copilot.
The copilot.

Blog post title and words are from Elton John’s “Take Me to the Pilot.” This is the actual song, but there’s a great version from 1994 where Elton John’s piano playing is absolutely brilliant.

He’s a tramp

But we love him!

Bo the tramp

And here’s the real hunter.

This mouse is mine and no one will take it away!

Twilight, a timid, fawn, went glimmering by, and Night, the dark-blue hunter, followed fast. (George William Russell)

I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse. (Walt Disney)

Soft kitty, naughty kitty

Someone’s been a bad boy. I went out and came home to this.

What is that blue and black strip, you might ask? That is the roll of plastic doggy poop bags (unused, of course!) that were on the counter in the kitchen.

This is the culprit inspecting his work.

Because it certainly wasn’t me, Kobi says!

Quotes of the Day

Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere. (Mae West)

When I’m good, I’m very good. But when I’m bad I’m better. (Mae West)

There are no good girls gone wrong – just bad girls found out. (Mae West)

You’ve got a friend

You just call out my name

And you know wherever I am

I’ll come running to see you again

Ain’t it good to know – you’ve got a friend!

Quotes of the Day

A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out. (Walter Winchell)

Friends are the siblings God never gave us. (Mencius)

It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them. (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

Talking to the paws

Today is “talk to the paw” day.

Hhm, we’re only seeing part of Bo’s paws here….

There’s no conversation when one is hiding under the sofa!

Quotes of the Day

We have two ears and one tongue so that we would listen more and talk less. (Diogenes)

Talk low, talk slow and don’t say too much. (John Wayne)

Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about. (Oscar Wilde)

Some exciting news!

This is Bo and Kobi, with some exciting news!

We have a new cousin, and Big Orange has a new brother! His name is Little Dog (as in “hot dog”).

He showed up one day at my parents’ house and is very, very friendly! A neighbor familiar with the neighborhood pets confirmed that this cat was a stray. His ear is clipped, which is apparently a mark of a “TNR” (Trap, Neuter, Release). A visit to the vet’s showed that he had no microchip and is free of Feline AIDs and Feline Leukemia.

My brother took him so Big Orange would have a companion. This is the first day they met.

And while Little D hissed at first, the two cats now get along quite admirably; they play with each other and groom each other!

Little D is very happy in his new home!

Quotes of the Day

Cats have a scam going – you buy the food, they eat the food, they go away; that’s the deal. (Eddie Izzard)

I believe cats to be spirits come to earth. A cat, I am sure, could walk on a cloud without coming through. (Jules Verne)

Time spent with cats is never wasted. (Sigmund Freud)
